Read the excerpt from Two Ways to be Korean after "Shattered Faith". Answer the following questions to turn in next class. If you are taking a test, turn them in during the next meeting.

1) Describe the state of North and South Korea after the war, who seemed better off? Explain.
2) What evidence suggests that the situation in North Korea has been deteriorating?
3) Compare and contrast the restrictions both governments forced upon their respective citizens?
4) According to the author, why was South Korea thought of as dependent on outside help?
5) How did North Korea maintain its economic independence?
6) In general, how did each economy recover?

Describe life for under the South Korean occupation of the North?
What happened to suspected communists? Why do you think these activities were able to continue even though American forces were present?
